Summertime and grill dinners go together like peaches and cream. For this week’s Cool Tip, we’re inspiring you to swap out some of your high-carbon grilling staples for low-emission and high-nutrition plants and plant-based foods!
Not every plant-based dish has to be gourmet as the title suggests, but feel free to ramp-up your BBQ’s from simple cheeseburgers to next-level recipes like this Jamaican Jerk Grilled Eggplant, these Seitan Kebabs, or mouthwatering Marinated Grilled Portobello Mushrooms 🤤
- Check out this blog post from Minimalist Baker (one of my all-time favorite food bloggers) with 30+ Planet Based Picnic & Grilling Recipes. She includes plant-based, summery recipe ideas for salads and sides (like this delicious and easy Vegan Coleslaw and a Minty Watermelon and Cucumber Salad), sauces and marinades, grill-ready sides (hello, Grilled Corn with Sriracha Aioli!) and heavenly mains. Check out this page before your next picnic or BBQ!
- Sharon Palmer has collected a list of 45 Plant-Based Grilling Recipes from all over the internet on her blog. Make sure you scroll down to the extensive section on grill-perfect fruity sides or desserts. Here’s a little sneak peek: Grilled Peaches, Pineapple, and Nectarines — oh my!
- Eating a more plant-based diet is the #2 climate solution according to Project Drawdown. While you’re at it, make your picnic, BBQ, or regular grill-night dinner even more sustainable by choosing reusable forks, knives, plates, and cloth napkins. Also, opt for long matches over a grill lighter when starting your fire! Unlike lighters, matches don’t add to plastic waste.
Happy Grilling!
