It\u2019s a win-win-win for our environment, health, and wallet, so choose to commit to reducing your food waste and take the <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/Q7V6NWj6owViCZwMA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Carbon CREW Food Waste Pledge<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By reducing food waste, up to 88 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide can be saved by 2050, which is more than all the emissions saved by solar, wind, and electric cars <strong>combined<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that\u2019s not all: reducing your food waste can save you money, benefit your health (actually using your groceries over ordering takeout again), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfpusa.org\/articles\/how-food-waste-affects-world-hunger\/\">solve world hunger<\/a>, and work to create a more resilient and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfp.org\/stories\/11-facts-about-food-loss-and-waste-and-how-it-links-sustainable-food-systems\">sustainable food system<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taking this one action can have a huge impact! My family is guilty of hoarding food in our fridge, freezer, and pantry, so I\u2019ve challenged myself to make meals with items I have at home. This year\u2019s theme? <strong>#BeatPlasticPollution<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Let&#039;s do better to #beatplasticpollution this World Environment Day 2023\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-wp99xFa76U?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You probably already know that plastic poses an enormous threat to the health of our planet and every living thing on it. But what can you do about it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While it\u2019s up to governments to implement plastic-restricting policies, individuals have the power to both motivate policy change and affect supply and demand. By choosing plastic-free alternatives, you can influence businesses and companies to alter their wasteful practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s eliminate plastic pollution together by\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Becoming intentional about avoiding plastics, especially single-use plastics. Replace storage containers with glass, use waxed cloth and waxed paper instead of plastic wrap, buy reusable water bottles, throw a utensil set in your bag, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boycott over-packaged food and tell the seller why you are boycotting it. Consider posting about it on social media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Switch to refillable cleaning supplies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many clothing items are made with plastic. Make your clothing last longer by drying it less (hang dry instead) and repairing it when it rips or breaks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support local bans on plastic materials (bags, straws, single-use tableware).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carboncrewproject.org\/index.php\/crew-sessions-and-events\/\" target=\"_blank\">Joining a CREW<\/a> or <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/9b4c3b4818d2\/cap-crew-user-guide\" target=\"_blank\">starting a CREW<\/a> and connecting with other people about their solutions to plastic waste ?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use this <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.worldenvironmentday.global\/get-involved\/register-activity\" target=\"_blank\">interactive map<\/a> to find registered World Environment Day events!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Climate Leadership in NYS<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carbon CREW Project\u2019s home state is HOT with climate leaders!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past couple months, we\u2019ve been developing relationships with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.climaterealityproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Climate Reality Project<\/a> and Rotary\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/esrag.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ESRAG<\/a> New York State chapters, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lwvhsinf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">League of Women Voters of Hamptons, Shelter Island, and North Fork<\/a>. These organizations are leading the charge for climate action, and we\u2019re thrilled to be working with them to bring this action into every household.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sylvester Manor Walk: Recap!<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We had an absolutely stunning walk and tour of Sylvester Manor two weekends ago with our brilliant guide, Sara Gordon! A big thank you to her and the Manor for hosting our tour and teaching us the rich history of the land and those who have lived and worked it.
